Windermere is a picturesque town in Cumbria, located in the Lake District National Park, England. It’s known for its stunning scenery, centered around Lake Windermere, the largest lake in England.

Note: This was originally a paper piece mounted in the center of the wood panel, with a 1.5" margin around it. That original painting was covered by no less than 4 other paintings (!), so in a sense you're getting 5 paintings in 1. But the edges of the covered paper are still visible, especially around the left and right edges. You can see this in the main image. This provides a rich history for the painting that the most discerning collectors will love.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This piece has heavy texture in places. This texture comes from building up heavy layers of paint, which provides a rich history for the piece, not all of which is always visible. The piece is finished with a coat of gloss varnish, which helps protect the painting over time. The painting has a gloss finish. This piece is mounted on wood panel. It comes wired for hanging. A certificate of authenticity is adhered to the back of the piece using archival-quality adhesive.

Background of this piece

I painted on this particular wood panel for a few weeks before it decided what it wanted to be. It started out as an attempt to glue a paper painting to the center of the panel using gloss medium. I've done this successfully many times before, but this time the original painting was unfortunately ruined in the process. I then sanded that back and painted 4 additional paintings on this panel, still never converging, each time sanding back some and starting over. I couldn't fully get the paper sanded off, so you can still see the shape of it under the painting. I like the idea of hidden layers (and even hidden paintings) buried beneath the topmost visible layer, a mysterious hidden history that adds magic to the painting.
